I made a desk tidy for the boys pencils out of an old pie apples tin. I have one of those can openers that doesn't leave sharp edges, we give it a wash and dry then the boys take my hammer and bash all around the edge just to be certain (and because they like the noise!).
I then take some light blue Craft Market textured card stock and trim it to fit the height of the tin and the width of a Fiskars texture plate then embossed the pieces with "rain drops" to make a background and fixed them to the tin with double sided tape. (A plate, Fiskars plate, card stock, silicone mat, C plate) I then took one piece of black card stock and two pieces of white and ran them through the Cuttlebug with the Cuttlebug Cutting Die: Ahoy Matey! I then used my craft knife on the two white die cuts to cut out the separate sails to give some dimension to the ship and then mounted them with double sided tape. I then mounted the ship on one side of the can. I tore blue corrugated card to represent the ocean and mounted this in front of the ship.
I took the die cut black Jolly Roger and covered the rear with tape then attached the white skull and mounted this on the other side of the tin. I then used some Pirate Scrapbook stickers from Sandylion sticker designs to hide the joins of the card stock and added "The Jolly Roger" sticker then I finished off by adding some maritime charms from a Craft Value pack from Kmart (whale, anchor, ships wheel, starfish, boat and light house).
